A Weekly Tryst That Will Leave You Forever Changed.

You fall in love with their covers.
You sniff their pages and
Run your fingertips down their spines.
You invite them for coffee.
Then a holiday on the beach.
You sleep with them.
Get swept by them.
Stand forever affected by them,
though they've left your life for years.
New and fresh and sharp-cornered and white,
Or old and yellow and wrinkled and yielding.
You know it's never their faces.
How they stand on the shelf
or fall into your hands.
Although their papers have had their allure,
and those of strong binding are irresistible.
It's not just paper lust.
However much they change through the years,
However you fold or tear, mark or tuck them in,
you hear their voices.
And that's what you remember,
mid-afternoon,
when you're having coffee alone.

Hi! My name is Claire and I write the Thursday Book Review.

My two favourite places in the world are the library and the bookstore. The library is my church; and the bookstore is where I go clubbing. Reading is both my religion and my vice.

I would like to enjoy as many good books as is possible in an average lifetime. Unfortunately, I have the tendency to be swayed by other distractions too, so I created the Thursday Book Review as a way to make sure that I keep reading week by week. I hope to be able to read everyday, and write posts not just on Thursdays. But beginnings, by nature, are such tiny things. So one Thursday at a time then for me.
